This Master&#8217;s Thesis, <strong>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/repositorio.upct.es\/entities\/publication\/f14fd787-ec17-47c9-8435-25adf592069a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Simulation and experimental validation of viscous damping in vessels<\/a>&#8220;<\/strong> by Sergio Mart\u00ednez Cano from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upct.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Cartagena (UPCT)<\/a>, is a perfect example of the powerful synergy between academia and industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this study, one of the most critical challenges in naval engineering is addressed: accurately predicting a ship&#8217;s roll damping. To achieve this,  the research seamlessly integrates meticulous physical experiments with advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. As a result, the project validates a robust methodology for this complex task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, this work brilliantly showcases several key aspects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The value of academic-industry collaboration<\/strong>: Research from leading institutions like UPCT, paired with advanced engineering tools like Tdyn, pushes the boundaries of what&#8217;s possible and helps train the next generation of top-tier engineers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tdyn&#8217;s power in complex marine applications<\/strong>: The study demonstrates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compassis.com\/tdyn\/\">Tdyn&#8217;<\/a>s capability to accurately model and simulate intricate fluid-structure interactions, successfully replicating experimental data and allowing for scalable analysis from models to real-world vessel dimensions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, this kind of rigorous validation is essential for designing safer and more efficient vessels.
