Aero-SERVO-hydroelastic SIMULATIONS for fatigue analysis
CompassIS offers advanced analysis services to optimize the design and assessment of ship and floating platform structures (offshore wind and oil & gas), delivering reliable, certification-ready results .
WHAT IS IT?
This turn-key consultancy service is an evolution of the hydroelastic strong coupling within seakeeping code Tdyn SeaFEM and FEA code Tdyn RamSeries, together with tools like OpenFAST. Using this powerful tools, CIMNE Naval and UPM-CEHINAV have developed a methodology based on the Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) methodology, which allows to efficiently obtain stress and fatigue damage results, taking into account every coupled effect (mooring, wind, current and wave loads) in the time domain .
WHAT IS ITS ADDED VALUE?
The methodology offered by this service revolutionizes the design, optimisation and verification process:
- Drastically reduces computational times regarding the structural dynamic analysis, which is the usal bottleneck.
- Solves the integrated load analysis problem for Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWT).
- Will help to reduce costs, providing almost real-time insights of the design, and allowing for its continuous optimization.
- Can be used in the structural design phase, for strength assessment and fatigue damage assessment, and even can be incorporated as a digital twin of the platform.
- The analysis methodology complies with the current Regulation Codes from most Classification Societies, as Bureau Veritas, DNV-GL, ABS or Lloyd’s Register: BV NI 572 DT R02 E, January 2019 – “Classification and Certification of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines”, BV NI 611 DT R01 E, November 2020 – “Guidelines for Fatigue Assessment of Ships and Offshore Units”, DNV-RP-C203, September 2019, “Fatigue design of offshore steel structures”, DNV-ST-0119, June 2021, “Floating wind turbine structures”.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS SERVICE?
Any company/cutomer seeking to optimise, enhance, verify/certifiy, or even start from scratch any floating platform design (FOWT or any others).
Also, all the large supply chain involved can take advantage of this methodology: designers, manufacturers, certification companies,…
WHAT DOES THIS SERVICE INCLUDE?
- Generation of FEA models from customer’s design data (CAD/drawings).
- Generation of seakeeping models for generation of the Modal RAOs’ points.
- Linearization of the customer’s mooring system design, together with the wind loads provided by the customer.
- Modal analysis (“wet” modes).
- Creation of the escenarios corresponding to the Fatigue Design Load Cases defined by the customer.
- Calculation of the stresses, strains and fatigue damage in the points defined by the customer (“hot spots”).
- Detailed reporting of the different results: customized graphical output with multiple contour fill map options, and graphs.
- Assessement regarding the results, and advice on possible actions for structural optimisation, and life time extension.
